Several programs at Pine River Community Learning Center are crafted specifically for career development and college entry. Some are ongoing components of our broader Adult Education courses.

Pine River Bridges Program

Start your own Stimulus Plan! As an initiative funded by State of Colorado with La Plata County, spanning Adult Education Centers throughout Southwest Colorado, Bridges to Success was a set of advanced work-skill trainings designed to give men and women the first-class edge on getting better jobs, on finance and computer masteries as they compete in a 21st-century marketplace. By learning from experts the top factors of professional power, the secrets of credit, the know-how of office software—and then transitioning into high-tech work or college--BTS graduates made extraordinary life changes. Today, the program continues. Learn more...

College Express

A new drop-in program designed to get you up and running for college... on your own terms. With men and women returning to school now in massive numbers due to tough economic times, as many as half are dropping out because the demands, costs, and confusions are too great. When that happens, it can make life even worse. Over and over again, the key is being ready. Those who manage to stay in college and finish have this in common: they know what to expect, who to talk to, and know their Accuplacer and other requirements before they start. Check it out!

CareerReady Colorado Certificate

In partnership with Colorado Workforce Centers, CareerReady is a certificate program that prepares adults for industry-specific careers by enhancing their skills in information processing and mathematics. As learners improve their levels of accomplishment, awards signed by Colorado’s Governor are given by the Durango Workforce Office, leading directly to job-placement at available sites. Open to high-school graduates or students already working toward their GED. Check out CDOLE's information.

ACCUPLACER Prep

The ACCUPLACER is a computerized test now administered by nearly all colleges in the U.S. to determine their enrollees’ “readiness” for higher education. Currently, the majority of entering students fall below the college benchmarks for reading and math, requiring “extra” expensive classes to bring them up to speed, and delaying their college-level work. By developing ACCUPLACER skills in advance of their college enrollment, adults may avert this calamity of remediation and better endure the challenges they’ll encounter. All PRCLC sites now offer workbook and practice materials to enhance ACCUPLACER readiness.

PRCLC Vocational Archive

Pine River Community Learning Center maintains a substantial library of books and resources for building one’s skills in trade vocations: Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Welding, Construction, Carpentry, Electrical, Automotive, Forestry, Business Management, Hospitality, etc. Whether you’re seeking entry into a certified career or just aiming to improve your handyman skills, PRCLC has the options for “shop.”
